Wouxun KG-1000G Plus GMRS Base/Mobile Two Way Radio

Great radio does everything you could ask for, same setup as my Yaesu radios i have. This now completes my home base, which now has 6 radios. Love the amateur radio hobby, so much to learn and do.

I used this for my first mobile rig. It fits my needs perfectly, and I couldn't be happier with it so far!

This thing is an absolute unit. I installed this in my 2021 GMC Sierra with the main unit under the driver seat and the control/display neatly tucked into the center console. The microphone with built in speaker allows me to use it without adding an external speaker and is plenty loud enough. Running the a roof mount NMO and a Midland 3db (Ghost) Antenna and easily hit and received repeaters 40 plus miles away in deep swamp Louisiana with no issue. If you’re hesitating because of the price, don’t, this thing is worth every bit of asking price. Will probably eventually buy another for a Base Station!

Everything you need is in the box. I like the magnet feature for the mic holder. I do wish there was an option for the mic cable to connect to the left side of the face plate. It’s strange to have it cross my cup holders.

I bought a pair to operate as a repeater, in the wooded hill-and-dale country of Piedmont northern VA. As soon as the last component arrives in the mail, we'll set up and begin field testing for signal strength. I'll amend this review when we have substantial results from those tests.

The KG-1000G+ is easy to use right out of the box and also easy to program for local repeaters using the separately purchased programming cable. You don't have to have the cable to program the various channels and tones, but it sure makes it much easier. I'm using it as a base station and the 50w power is much appreciated.

I purchased 3 of the 1000G Plus, 2 to use as a repeater and the other in my car. The 2 configured as a repeater work great. There was an updated YouTube video which shows you have to configure the repeater. Was easy to follow and the repeater worked better then expected. I'm thinking about purchasing another one for my other car.

I’m just moving through different radios and brands, but it was apparent that the KG1000G+ stood out!
This was my fourth radio to buy in 2 months, and this one by far has LOTS of potential.
The first radio I have bought from BTWR.com, and it’s a blessing that these guys stand behind what the sell! The first 1000G+ had a remote mount cable issue, and the warranty the replacement with no questions asked!
It’s pretty easy to set up, I have been told it sounds CRYSTAL clear through the repeaters, and the 50w gives it a better push for the fars! I would NOT hesitate to make another purchase for this unit through these guys!!

Bought the Wouxun 1000 G Base, had a custom cable made for it, put it 26 feet in the air, tested the SWR's and they were dead on 1, I am very happy with this set up. I am able to talk easily 15 miles on simplex to where I was not able to before.

Unfortunately, the system did not work. There was only 6 1/2 miles between the two radios systems and it didn’t work at all. We were not able to communicate with each other at all. We believe the antenna was very weak for the intended purpose. The helper at the store was very good and nice and recommended using a repeater That cost more money. We have not had a chance to try that yet, but we were very disappointed that the system for the amount of money we spent couldn’t even work with just 6 1/2 miles between us.

I have a KG-1000G and the KG-1000Plus is even better. These two radios are tops. Great power and the ability to use all kinds of tones make these radios the best available.

I am a ham operator and have an Icom 5100 in my truck. I have found this has the same sound quality , ease of use and great range.
Programing with the free software was very easy.
I see some people complain about the screen brightness which I will say I wish it was adjustable, but with the screen light time out option, I am happy with the screen turning off after 20 seconds.
All in all a great radio and would recommend.

I'm very new to GMRS radio. This isn't your Walmart radio. With a little commonsense and understanding, this radio can be easily understood. If you learn by reading, the manual is there. If you learn by looking at something, you can watch the manual while working the radio. One thing to consider is that GMRS radios are not for gab like Ham. This radio is great for better distance than FRS and keeping in communications your group, family, and friends.

Aside from the crazy bright screen on the Wouxun KG-1000G Plus (that can’t be dimmed, even at night), it’s a really quality radio.

Since I own a B-TECH UV-50X3 and have it installed in my same vehicle, (that radio also has a detachable face), I wanted provide my reviews from the approach of comparing those two radios.

Below is a list of reasons where I believe the Wouxun KG-1000G+ wins compared to the Baofeng/B-TECH UV-50X3:

1. Scanning: The KG-1000G+ has the ability to scan both left/right (A/B) sides at the same time (the B-TECH can only scan the active selected side).

2. Programming: The KG-1000G+ mirrors the same programmed channels on both the left and right sides, the B-TECH requires programming each side independently of the other. Adding a channel to either side on the Wouxun will mirror that programming to the other side (both sides pull from the same memory list). This is not the case with the B-TECH which makes programming without a computer annoying, albeit it does offer the ability to have 2 different channel sets if you wanted one for GMRS and another for listening to other frequencies, for example. The KG-1000G+ approach is better for me, it’s more intuitive and user-friendly.

3. Hand Mic: The handheld mic on the KG-1000G+ feels heftier and more robust than the lightweight cheaper feeling hand mic of the B-TECH. Also, I like the concept of the magnetic mount option on the Wouxun, but it just isn’t strong enough and doesn’t stay on well enough for me when bouncing around in an SUV.

4. Build Quality: The overall feel in general, including the knobs on the Wouxing KG-1000G+ faceplate all feel like better build quality.

5. Easy On/Off: Turning on and off the KG-1000G+ is instantaneous with a brief button click as opposed to having to hold down the power button for 1 full second on the B-TECH. I prefer the KG-1000G+ with its quick on & off, especially since it’s in a vehicle and makes it less distracting


Cons with the KG-1000G Plus:

1. Quiet Speakers: The speakers stink on the Wouxun…all of them (2 in main transceiver and one in speaker mix, none in faceplate). I mounted the Wouxun detachable faceplate and microphone at my ceiling, which is as close to my ear as I could get, and then mounted the main transceiver unit under the passenger seat. The speakers in the transceiver are already substantially quieter on the Wouxun than those in the B-TECH and by the time the Wouxun main transceiver (and its speakers) are under the seat, they were muffled so much they were effectively useless (despite it being a relatively open area under the seat of my 4Runner). The little speaker at the back of the hand mic is a nice concept, but again, despite being at ear level in my case, it doesn’t help at all - it’s just too small and too quiet. My solution was to add 2 external speakers (note, each side of the KG-1000G+ has an external speaker port, so unless you joined them with an adapter (which I didn’t try, so not sure if it’s possible), 2 external speakers are required.    I now have two 20 watt Bearcat (Uniden) speakers plugged in and it’s much better (just hard to find a place to mount two more big things inconspicuously). The B-TECH speaker set up is better - while it does not have a mic built into the back of the handheld mic, it does have some beefier (louder) speakers in the transceiver AND also has larger/louder speakers built into the back of the detachable control head display.  I wish the KG-1000G+ had this, however the control head on the Wouxun is a smaller size than the B-TECH which makes it easier to blend in with regard to mounting options (I imagine that smaller size is what limits space for any speakers, but it seems like Wouxun could improve the speakers in the KG-1000G+ transceiver box).  

2. Non-Dimmable Screen: I’ll put it bluntly: the Wouxun screen is too damn bright! At night it is a legitimate safety hazard when driving if it’s anywhere in your eyeline. For some odd reason there is NO ability to dim the screen brightness (or change the color of the screen to a more night-friendly option on your eyes). The B-TECH allows dimming and color changing which makes it much easier to find the right balance for night driving. While the Wouxun KG-1000G+ can turn off the backlit display completely always or or after a certain number of seconds after a TX/RX, it is distractingly bright when it comes on while driving at night. THIS IS MY BIGGEST GRIPE.

3. Scanning: I wish there was an option to restart scanning after 3-5 seconds of no new activity, not after 3 seconds of the initial activity.

4. Display: while I appreciate the minimalist design of what shows on the display (and I also recognize this is a wish of mine for almost any mobile radio), it would be helpful to be able to not just see the “C” icon if a CTCSS tone is enabled, but to actually see what that selected tone is on any particular channel without having to go into the menu to find out, especially in frequency mode. Also, while in channel mode, I like that the channel number is shown, but it would also be valuable to see the frequency on the display in MHz as well. If there wasn’t enough room to have all this in dual display, then it would be nice for this to be able to show while on single display (as of now, a bunch of space kn the other side is just taken up with “KG1000G+” which is pretty useless since I know what the radio is already.

5. Scan Speed: This is a little bit-picky, but the scan speed is about 75% faster on the B-Tech with ~7 channels scanned per second (10 channels scanned in 1.47 seconds) vs the Wouxun at ~4 channels scanned per second (10 channels scanned in 2.36 seconds).


Wish List for KG1000G+:

1. An icon (like what is on the KG-935G) showing which side last had an RX would be nice.

2. I love the feel of Motorola mobile mics that have a “click” feel when keying the mic. I wish the Wouxun had that.

3. Show the PL/DPL tone on the radio screen that is programmed to the selected channel or frequency and show the frequency in small font when in channel mode.

Overall, I am enjoying the Wouxun KG-1000G+ and find myself using it more frequently than the B-TECH. I have had both radios installed in my vehicle for several months to see how I used each one, what I preferred, and which one I tended to gravitate toward, so this review is a compilation of my experience over that time.

Before I say anything about the radio, I just want to say that BuyTwoRadios.com has the best customer service I ever delt with (I'm 65 years old) and I use to work on an IT help desk. Quick response time, fast delivery, overall an A+ company.
The KG-1000+ is a solid radio that I'm using as a base station. I find the dual speaker volume nobs most useful since I monitor two repeater sites. I'm still new in the GMRS world and have a lot to learn. Although I may be new, I'm finding the KG-1000+ easy to use. I prefer using a program cable over using the Microphone.

Very nice unit. My only complaint is that I wish the audio was a little louder. Not a deal breaker though, I would buy again.

A little more learning with all the setting but that's a good thing. So many features. I have a magnetic roof mount with a nagoya 770g 6db antenna and I'm running 1.01 swr. I'm able to reach my repeater 40 miles away full signal. I haven't tried further but I do cross city simplex with my buddy that's over 10 miles away and we're both full bars. The different mounting options are amazing. The software is good and it works good with chirp. The programable buttons are awesome. I can only transmit on gmrs but I can listen to everything

Great radio, If you want a power supply one that's separate, so the inputs are accessible.

I did my research before buying what I wanted to use as my base station radio and was so impressed I bought another one for my pickup. With the base station radio and my mobile radio my wife and I can talk all over our valley — and we live in a pretty hilly area. Personally, I feel these Wouxun 50 watt radios are among the best you can buy. Super easy to program too!!

Ive had many radios, but this is the first higher dollar model I own. WOW, it's so clear, no more mystery noises, loud clicks or static. It also has real time squelch adjustment! Now I see the difference and Im so happy with this unit. The options like the face plate removal and postion adjustment are on point, the quality of build is above average. The screen and speakers....yes speaker "S" which this unit has two, one for each band, sound VERY GOOD. I recommend this unit, Im using it as a base station and am currently looking at posting some YouTube Reviews also at BaaSicStuff on YouTube.

About Two Way Radios, their LIVE chat and staff have advised me and helped me with my build, I asked so many questions but not once did they act as if I was troubling them. Customer service alone is a good reason to purchase from these guys, cause you will have questions and they answer them to the best of their ability.

This radio seems to be high quality. Works right out of the box for GMRS. I bought the program cable later when I decided to add some Chanels . I couldn’t get it to read the radio on my computer so I called customer support at buy two way radio. The guy I talked to had me up and running in no time he was very knowledgeable. I really like the radio and the customer support.

Bought a second unit to use as a repeater. New unit has a transmit issue...transmits 469 when set for 462. Bad thing is it will take a week to get back and more than a week for the replacement to return. Scrapping the Wouxuns and getting a real repeater.

So far so good except for bad DC pwr lead connector(s), the unit would power up and shut down on its own when the DC connectors near the unit were moved. OEM connectors were promptly replaced with power poles and now all is well.

Purchased the KG-1000g about 3 years ago and microphone discovered bad after warranty expired so bought another mike for $25 and found that the left side of radio when in dual band was intermittent so only used on right side and programming worked well. So, I decided to purchase another KG-1000G Plus upgraded model and have found no faults with the Plus model , In fact ready to purchase another KG-1000 Plus!

I Bought This 50Watt GMRS Wouxun KG-1000G Plus Radio to install in my Offroad Rig And i made a Custom Ram Mount For My Rago Fab Center Console Molle Panel System with Bridge plate mounted radio to my bridge plate system and came out nice have the faceplate mounted on bridge and the Radio body is mounted under the seat.. amazing radio there are a few things i don't like you cant change which speaker controls what channel but that's fine just switch the main station to a or b for which ever one you want the bigger speaker on.. when radio chassis is mounted under a seat the speakers are not very loud at all there only loud if used as a base station inside. love the removable face plate love the customizability of the settings and screen super easy to see.. what i love the most is the programmability of the keys and that it was easy to take the program channels of my KG-935G Plus in chirp and move the entire channel list over then upload to radio with the chirp software and the programming cable i purchased. SWR was amazing out the box with the Wouxun antenna and NMO Mag Mount From Wouxun as well as tested radio with the NMO Clamp mount as well results down below.. all in all a amazing radio about to buy 3 more 2 for a repeater system and 1 as a base station just amazing radio for the price and what you get.

Low power, this radio rated for 50 watts I am only getting 22 to 30 watts. I am very disappointed a few of my friends has the radio and they are getting 44 to 53 watts.

Liked it so much I found a reason to buy another. That says it all.

Put the 1000G+ in n my 4Runner and liked it so much I out one in my FJ. Detachable face makes a super clean install super easy. Makes me wish I had another vehicle. Hmmmmm….

best mobile hands down

Based on other Wouxun radios that I have bought from TWR I decided to spend the extra money on the 1000G + instead of the BTECH. I had some issues with the 1000G and the TWR staff sent me a new 1000G that works perfectly. I will continue to buy equipment from TWR because of the products they offer and their excellent customer service.

Purchased one KG-1000G Plus and used it for sometime. The radio worked very good with no problems. Found no cons of the radio. I have now purchased a second KG-1000G Plus and it to is functioning flawless. I would recommend it.

I picked up the KG-1000G Plus during the Black Friday 2023 sale…what a deal! I upgraded from the Wouxum KG-935G HT in hopes of getting better range with more watts, and the KG-1000G Plus came through like a champ! Setup and programming was simple and straight forward with the help of the instruction manual for options I was unsure about. I’m now able to hit repeaters in my area that were previously unreachable with my HT. The chassis of the KG-1000G Plus is solidly built and controls feel reliable. The speakers are a bit loud but the sound is clear with a noticeable punch throughout listening area. My only suggestions would be to: 1. Add an option in the menu to set the brightness of the LCD screen and also change its color. 2. Dial-down the volume so that the radio isn’t so loud at its lowest setting (perhaps a firmware update). Overall the Wouxun KG-1000G Plus is a great radio for anyone looking to extend or expand their GMRS footprint.

In the last two months, I’ve purchased three Wouxun KG1000Plus’s, two mobile antennas and mounts, one power supply, one base station antenna tuned for GMRS, and a very heavy (Italian) coaxial cable.
All very impressive gear. I love the mounting flexibility that the removable face of the radio offers. I mounted all three faces in convenient locations and the radios in out of the way spots. Very impressive programmability also.
I tested each radio and antenna with a power/SWR meter. All three radios put out 47-48 watts and the antennas are well within spec.

Let me say first that the KG1000G-Plus is an awesome radio. I have owned several top brand GMRS Radios over the last 8 years.
I now own 2 of the KG1000G-Plus's and they are "heads and tails" above their GMRS counterparts on the market. Will I buy another? You bet!
I did multiple tests of both my KG's before I decided to write this review, both on the bench and in the field. One thing to note here, each GMRS radio I have owned has had its good points and bad points. My views here are only based upon my own experiences. I know others may have different experiences and opinions on this radio.
For base operations I use a Laird 4605 Antenna....SWR 1.14 on the High side, 1.01 on the Low side. For mobile use I use a Midland MXTA26 with the Midland NMO Lip Mount, Midland NMO Mag Mount, and also use the Melowave NMO Mag Mount. SWR 1.01 across the board on those.
The Good Stuff:
Great receiving capabilities. Much more sensitive to the weaker signals than the other GMRS radios I own.
Good sound quality from the radio speakers while used as a Mobile and a Base.
A very clear display. I dont find the screen pixelation to be a problem for me as others have noted. I actually like the larger digit view.
The fan is relatively quiet and is not bothersome. Even while operating on frequent transmit sessions. The unit can get hot though, and the fan will run until cool.
Easy to program with Chirp. I prefer Chirp over the stock software because I feel Chirp gives me more flexibility in the "Cut and Paste" world.
I have used Chirp for years. Some may like the RT Systems Software for this type of flexibility.
Easy to use "On the fly" Microphone settings and programming. Kudos on this one!
Multiple programming options to set up the radio to your specific tastes and needs. The options are truly unlimited.
The Priority Channel feature and settings work flawlessly.
If you are setting up Scan Groups you will definitely be a "happy camper".
The settings and operation while using Codes and Tones is perfect.
I have been told crystal clear reception while transmitting. I have talked Simplex at a Max of 20 Miles so far. 1/2 over water and 1/2 through thick forest.
I'm still doing more testing. There are no repeaters in my rural location.
The "So So" Stuff:
No dimming control for the display while night driving. Seems to be a common complaint with the KG1000G Plus....Yep, I now understand that.
Scan Speed is much too slow. You will miss some transmissions, even with a small scan group.
It seems the transmit Wattage varies between radios a bit. My 1st radio transmits 47-48 Watts on the high side into my 50W dummy load using a BTECH
RPS-30PRO set at 14.1 Volts. Voltage holds steady while transmitting at 14.1, with the Amp draw between 10 and 10.1. My 2nd Radio transmits at 45-46 Watts using the same gear and settings. Not a deal breaker of course, but still a 2 watt difference. I own 2 Midlands, and both transmit at their rated wattage. However, their receive capability cannot compare to my 2 KG1000G Plus's.
The Speaker in the hand Microphone is really not loud enough to assist inside of a noisy vehicle.
I had to take away one star for the "So So" Stuff", but I will still buy another KG1000Plus, or the next upgrade, whichever comes first.

I was able to install this radio in my vehicle with no problem. I’m very happy with this radio. When I get my funds built up I plan to buy another KG1000G Plus for my second vehicle.

It is a great radio. I’m in the process of programming all the frequencies I want in the radio. I love that just the control head can be put on a separate mount and the bulk of the radio is under my seat. I love my no holes mount for my radio. I love that I don’t have to hook up my portable radio to my vehicle and when I’m in for the night, I have to unplug my portable. Now I don’t have to. Thank You for making a great mobile radio.

The 1000G+ is a nice radio and easy to program. It works great in my vehicle.

My first KG-1000G+ radio purchase went off flawlessly. Shipping was pretty quick. These are a list of my Pro's and Con's with this radio.

PROS:

Unit has a multitude of great functions. The 1 wire clone feature is fantastic to program a second unit!

Sound quality is superb on both transmit and receive.

Unit build is of superior quality.

Ability to link two radios together as a repeater is an outstanding feature!

Removable and remote face plate locating is also nice.

Transmission comes back loud and clear (sound like a local) at a 40 mile distance.

CONS:

Unit scan speed is horribly slow and sporadic.

No dimming of the display is available

Unit is NOT putting out 50 watts.... (36-37) is what i'm getting out of it. For the price point (45-47) should be more inline with the "norm".

I'm overall very pleased with the radio but it suffered the loss of 1 star due to "scan speed" and being under-powered from the claim of 50 watts.

I now have three of these radios so they aren’t bad radios. There are a few quirks though.
1. The rx meter and light sometimes stick on while scanning. The radio continues to work as it should and continues scanning though.
2. When using as a repeater pair there is about a one second delay before the transmit radio starts transmitting.
3. When using as a repeater pair there is no “kerchunk” that can be heard by the person transmitting into the repeater nor is there a setting to adjust the hang time. I know most don’t prefer to hear it but it’s helpful to know if you’re actually hitting the repeater.

All in all it’s a good radio with a few minor quirks

I recently purchased my KG-1000, and I have no regrets. The radio is built well. I can hit repeaters now, that I couldn't reach before. The receiving is better than either of my Midlands. I caught the radio on sale too, which made it even better for me. It was easy to program, and the 3 speakers are great. You can listen to 2 different channels at once, and control both by their own volume knobs. Truly happy with this purchase, and it arrived quicky. Great service also by Buy Two Way Radios. I will be buying from them again also.

love this radio sounds great blow my midland away. can now reach lots of repeaters 60 plus miles from here with the midland i couldnt get a repeater 25 miles away

With this KG 1000 Plus, I have 2-50ft runs of Messi & Paoloni ultra flex 7, with Alpha Delta TT3G50 surge protector in-line, getting a 1.0 SWR @ 30ft high. KB9VBR GMRS Slim Jim Antenna Could not ask for more. Thanks for a good high quality Radio and fast shipping.

Very happy with this mobile unit. I will likely purchase another one for my shack once I put yet another antenna on my roof. Using the Comet 2x4SRNMO with a 5" mag mount on my van. Great combo. Good reports back on transmissions and receive audio is good too. Using an external speaker that is sometimes too quiet, so it helps to have a speaker in the mic.

I have purchased about a dozen items from this company. Every item has been easy to order, no hassle with shipping, and all the units worked perfectly upon arrival at my house. I will continue to order equipment from this vendor.

Oh, I love this radio. I decided to bargain shop and bought a whole bunch of radios for lesser cost and much lesser performance. I watch notarubicon on YouTube quite a bit. I consider myself to be a NOTARUBICON super fan. Anyway this radio is so easy to program, puts out 53 watts from my SWR/Power meter. The speakers are on top of the radio and there’s a speaker for each of the two radios inside the box. Meaning, it’s a dual channel you have an aA and a B side so you can scan two frequencies simultaneously. I would say that the LED display could be more crisp and clear. It’s kind of pixelated for such a high end radio and it doesn’t scan terribly fast. That would be the only two negatives. I have to say I thought about buying this radio for almost 2 years I finally did and I bought two of them. I’ll probably buy two more for my kids. It’s that good. It’s expensive but totally worth the price tag I got the plus model so I have the extra programmable channel on top. I am very happy that I got the plus model it was only $20 more and worth it. I am new Wouxun brand radios, I had my initial doubts. I finally decided go ahead and get the 1000g Plus, and give my review on the unit to my community GMRS group. Right out of the box you could tell this was a quality radio. The faceplate spacers were a fantastic idea! The mic is also of great quality, with a backlight for the keypad you can turn on and off, and a lock button so you don’t accidental press buttons you don’t want to. The transmit power on this unit is like nothing I’ve used before. It actually puts out what it claims it does when tested with the SDR meter. Also, it’s a superheterodyne radio, I think that should be advertised more with this brand. 100% worth the price tag!

As a radio its 5 stars don't get me wrong. I would recommend it as a radio and no t a repeater. I will explain The receive and transmitting are outstanding. Transmit on repeater is 50 watts. easy to program on the fly. Data cable works great once you get the drivers. I don't have a CD drive on the laptop. I had to hunt down drivers but not hard to do.

As 2 linked together it works. Range was outstanding. You have no pin outs for linking anything. No ID O Matic or linking to internet items direct. This is a huge failure. Buy two way radios did provide me as much as possible. I figured it worked till I did more testing. Failure again.

As a repeater if your only using it for family and no other call signs it a great setup. I cant recommend this as repeater for public use. I hope this changes. I will keep testing but in no rush. As a repeater a poor design with no support of adding accessories at this time.

I've had this radio for a while using it in the shack as a base as well as in the Jeep. It preforms well in both situations. However, if I could find any fault it would be in the mobile operation and honestly, I don't really think it's the radio at fault. It's hard to hear clearly when I have the top down and the doors off of the Jeep - and quite honestly I doubt there's a radio out there that could overcome that situation. I believe a remote speaker would eliminate that even being an issue. The only other "complaint' I have with the radio is the fact that I cannot dim the display. I have the unit mounted just above the rear view mirror in the Jeep and the brightness of the display does tend to be overpowering at night.

All in all, I really love the radio, highly recommend you purchasing it. It's easy to operate and program.

I love this radio. Unfortunately, the manual says it comes with a magnetic mic holder - when I called because mine was missing, they told me it does not, however they graciously sent me one. I called one other time to ask how I get it to stop beeping when I press the ptt and the guy that helped me through the menus did....but as I was in the car full of friends...they responded about how rude he was. Like I said he helped....but he seemed irritated about my call. I'm new to GMRS so I dont know what all the menus mean - sorry about that.

I purchased the Wouxn KG-1000 plus as a base unit and am very impressed . It is very easy to program and operate. I highly recommend it. Shipment and delivery times were very fast. Sent out the same day I purchased it .

I bought this from a guy who bought from B2WR.
First, it helped teach me alot about how tones and such work. The customization for channels and names is amazing as well as the customization of the product itself! Even better is the fact that, although the programming software for the KP-935 plus is not the same, it is intuitive enough to make sure ALL channels across both systems are identical! As a noob, I love this radio!

No issue reaching out to my local repeaters and simplex. It would be nice if the PLUS had the same feature as the kg-935g plus—a (last active area indicator). Monitoring two areas is excellent, but without knowing which one it came from is a downer. FIRMWARE UPDATE?

Don't let the title mislead you. This is a fantasist radio. I just ordered a 2nd to replace my outdated single band mobile GMRS radio. The Wouxun RX is clear as a bell. TX on a repeater 25+ miles away comes back as full quiet and my TX audio is crystal clear. I live in a deep river valley in the middle of town. Very impressive. The ability to scan both A + B sides is a plus. I'll have side A scan local GMRS/HAM repeaters, and side B scans local PD/Fire/EMS frequencies. I don't miss any traffic now. I highly recommend the KG1000G+ for the beginner, to the experienced ham guys/gals.

My KG1000G+ wish list (Reason for the 4 stars):
1- A cross band repeat option. One that allows me to TX from my HT to my Wouxun base, then have the Wouxun TX to GMRS channels. Possibly a firmware update so I don't have to buy another radio. As there are other radios that have the cross band repeat option, even the Wouxun KG-UV980P, it seems none go into the GMRS bands. Having this option would allow me to use my HTs around my house/property/city, while still reaching GMRS repeaters at full quiet using base radio/antenna. Be the first and lead the way...
2- The scan speed is a little slow. I only have around 10-15 channels in each scan group, and tend to miss call signs and BOT on PD/Fire/EMS. Only gets worse when adding more channels/frequencies. Needs to scan faster.
3- The ability to turn Roger Beep on/off for individual channels. Some of my local repeaters frown on Roger Beeps. I like using them while on simplex with family/friends. But seems with the KG1000G+, if you turn it on, it turns it on for all channels/frequencies. Both A + B sides. At minimum, have it as a quick key option to turn on/off easily.

Overall, despite my few personal gripes, this is still an amazing radio. So much so, I have a second KG1000G+ on the way. Thank you to BTWR for having an easy to navigate website, hassle free checkout, and fast/free shipping. Can't ask for much more than that.

I have other 50 watt GMRS radios, but they picked up interference from nearby electronics. This radio has a nice clean sound, great reception, and features way more options and channels than the other brands. I too unfortunately live in a dead zone, but this unit from Wouxun, outperforms all my other radios. Glad I made this purchase.

Surpassed my expectations from the YouTube reviews I've seen. The area I live in is a dead zone for me to receive much GMRS traffic. I can now not only hear but can hit the local repeaters 15-20 miles away. On simplex channel's I'm getting twice as far to my handheld at home. Purchased this radio for my weekend off-roading group so I can hear all riders in the group and it works very well for that. I'm very happy with my WOUXUN KG-1000G +

Bought three of them used two for repeater and one for mobile able to talk on my repeater from 50 miles away exceeded my expectation two-way radio tuned my duplxer.did a excellent job. Customer service is excellent

Have had the KG-1000G for a few months now and so far it has worked well as a base station. I use the dual receive so that I can keep one channel on a specific frequency that I use with a friend and use the other "Area" to scan all the channels.
Unlike Midland units that I have, this radio can also monitor the FRS 467 MHz interstitial channels 8-14 which lets you know if there is use of those frequencies.
I knew before I bought the radio that the screen was not the best display, but it has still been OK. I wish it was more like some of my older amateur radios that have really nice displays with finer detail and not being quite so pixelated.
But overall, I would recommend this radio as about the best 50 watt GMRS unit currently available.

I am new to GMRS, but I've been around radios or all sorts for a very very long time. This radio appears to have been well thought out. I had fun installing it. I wanted to separate the head unit but ultimately decided to keep it as a single unit for convenience in my situation. I love the two channel monitoring and the ability to control everything from the handset/mic!

The only thing that I won't call a "CON", but I would have liked "better". The speaker on the handset is, for me useless. The volume won't go high enough for me to clearly hear traffic. I haven't reached out to see if this is a mfg defect. If anyone else has a much louder mic/speaker please let me know. Not really a show stopper in my opinion.

WAS EASY TO PROGRAM AND OTHER THAN THAT HAVEN'T HAD A REAL CHANCE TO TEST IT OUT BUT WITH MOBILE ANTENNA STILL IN HOUSE IT WORKS GOOD.

This radio has so much to offer and at a great price point. I get unsolicited reports on my TX audio and the RX audio is just wonderful. I picked up the programming cable which makes programing a breeze. I am still learning all the different things this radio is capable of! You can purchase their wireless microphone and plug a device into the radios mic plug and it becomes a Bluetooth handheld mic or run Bluetooth right from in your car if so equipped! Power output is right at 50watts. The radio is very well built with no flimsy knobs. Thanks buy two way radios. So nice to have you guys close by! First rate folks!

Enjoy the radio a lot, and the upgrades from the 1000 to the 1000 PLUS are a nice touch. Had a problem a few days after receiving the radio - a crimped cable from the unit to the faceplate which prevented the radio from operating, but B2W assisted with troubleshooting and provided a replacement cable. Radio works like a champ.

I have a Wouxun KG-1000G and a KG-1000G PLUS - they are both excellent GMRS transceivers. I would like to suggest however that for future specials that include a free mag mount antenna (or for orders that include a mag mount antenna) DO NOT INCLUDE THE MAG MOUNT IN THE SAME BOX AS THE RADIO. I believe that it MAY BE "POSSIBLE" that these strong magnets can alter the magnetic field within the iron core tuning slugs of the I.F. stages and others and thereby "detune" the radios from factory specs. It may also be possible to magnetize small "reed relays" thereby causing them to "stick" or slow their action. Speaker performance can also be degraded by altering their permanent magnetic fields. My KG-1000G PLUS arrived with the strong (car roof side) of the mag mount sitting (in it's cardboard box) placed DIRECTLY ON TOP of the radio box separated by a TOTAL of only about 3/4" of cardboard from the top of the radio itself. Cardboard does NOT contain or dampen magnetic fields! These very strong mag mount fields extend about 2 OR MORE inches through ANYTHING (including cardboard), as you can feel the VERY STRONG "pull" whenever these mag mounts are within about 2 inches of a car roof. I like to keep my new equipment as close to FACTORY ALIGNMENT as possible. No "NOTICEABLE" degradation of performance is noted thus far, but I do not have the factory test equipment nor the alignment specs available to determine whether any "detuning" has occurred in my radio. I suggest sending mag mounts in their own separate shipping boxes well padded so that the magnet is in the CENTER of the box as far away from the 6 outer sides as possible rather than being placed directly on top of the radio box. BTWR is a GREAT company & I have confidence that they will investigate this possible concern and take corrective action if required. Thanks for a GREAT Black Friday deal!

I received my KG-1000Gplus in 3days. The radio is great and easy to program manually. The Manual is well written any easily understood. I WAS having trouble with my priority channel. I called the next day talked with John and he went in the warehouse got a unit”figured out my issue.He called me back within an hour and walked through the problem. Great Radio & Customer service.

The radio met my expectations perfectly and customer service exceeded my expectations. I have 2 of these now and will be experimenting with setting up a repeater soon. Highly recommended.

I've had this radio for a week or so and have been happy with it so far. Loud and clear speakers and reception. The ability to setup scan groups by name instead of number and dual scan mode is a great feature.

This looks to be a really nice radio. I haven't installed it yet but hoping it will turn out great. Sadly the radio shipped with parts floating around in the mfg box and the mfg box itself was not fully shut. Glad it was at least double boxed for shipping. BTWR sent me the parts that were loose in case I am missing anything but this should not be how a radio ships from either a mfg or the retailer.

The kg-1000g+ is the only mobile/base with power to clear the woodlands around me and the clarity of the voice is noticeably better than my other 2 GMRS radios.
