The FCC Clarifies the Rule on Linking GMRS Repeaters 1:21
The topic of linking repeaters has been one of confusion and contention within the GMRS community. Recently the FCC finally stepped in and clarified the rule regarding GMRS repeater operation to settle the argument once and for all, and it did so in plain English. So what is the final word on this? Can GMRS repeaters be linked? Or is it against the rules? The more interesting question is, did the rule really need to be clarified in the first place?

New President JERRY FCC CB Radio 1:22
A few years ago, President Radio made waves on the CB band with the introduction the RANDY FCC, a handheld with a lithium-ion battery and some features usually found only on the mobiles. The RANDY proved to be popular, so when the FCC approved FM on CB, President wasted no time in adding that capability to their lineup and created the RANDY II. Now they have a new handheld model, the JERRY FCC. Is this the same as the RANDY II, or is it something different?

Is Ham Radio Better or GMRS? 1:21
Recently someone in our forum introduced a discussion comparing the amateur radio service to the GMRS, and provided a short but interesting take as to why he thought ham radio was the better option. The reasoning put forth was based simply on the fact that while both were governed by rules set forth by the FCC, ham radio had more spectrum allocated to it than GMRS. While it is true that GMRS has fewer channels, is it really fair to say that ham radio is better than GMRS, or could it be the other way around?

Bills Proposed to Allow Ham Radio Antennas in an HOA 1:21
In 2023 a bipartisan bill of particular interest to amateur radio operators was introduced to the United States House of Representatives. Titled Amateur Radio Emergency Preparedness Act, this bill proposed to amend the Communications Act of 1934 to prohibit the application of certain private land use restrictions to amateur station antennas, and for other purposes. What is this bill about, could it pass, and if it does becomes law, how would it potentially impact an amateur radio operator who resides in a deed restricted community such as a Homeowner’s Association?

Censorship on GMRS Repeaters? 1:24
Recently I overheard an exchange on a local GMRS repeater between the owner of the repeater and a newly licensed GMRS operator who was using it. Although the new operator did not violate any of the FCC rules, he apparently did break one set by the owner of the repeater as a condition for using it. The question is, How much power does a GMRS repeater owner have to control free speech?

FCC petition to change Part 95 rules for the GMRS 1:24
On July 16, 2021, Midland requested that the FCC waive certain sections of its Part 95 rules to extend data privileges that are currently limited only to handheld GMRS devices to include mobile radios. On November 29, 2023 the OFFICE OF MANAGING AND DIRECTOR’S BUREAU issued a public notice stating that Interested persons may file statements opposing or supporting the Petition for Rulemaking within 30 days. What exactly is this all about? If this petition is approved, what does this mean for the future of the General Mobile Radio Service? Will this be good or bad for the GMRS airwaves going forward?
