  • President JERRY FCC and RANDY II CB Radio Comparison

President JERRY FCC and RANDY II FCC CB Radio ComparisonPresident is well established as a reputable manufacture of quality mobile CB radios. A few years ago, they made waves on the CB band with the introduction of a handheld model, the President RANDY FCC, and we covered it in episode 155 of The Two Way Radio Show Podcast. The RANDY proved to be popular, so when the FCC approved FM on CB, President wasted no time in adding it to their lineup by creating the RANDY II.

This upgraded version of the original is very popular, with one caveat. It's the price. Some CBers complain that it is a bit too pricey for an ht CB. They aren't wrong. When compared with Cobra, Midland and Wouxun handheld CBs, the RANDY II is the most expensive model on the market.

It seems that President was listening, because they just launched a brand new model, and at a lower price point. Introducing the President Jerry FCC AM/FM Handheld CB Radio!

The JERRY FCC is a lighter version the RANDY II. Think of it as the RANDY II Lite. It works in AM and FM modes and has many of the standard features of its higher end cousin. Although it does not include some of the advanced functionality like the companding, noise gate, scan skip and VOX, it does have the weather channels and alert, which many users consider is more important anyway.

The display is also not quite as customizable. The RANDY II featured a 7 Color multifunction LCD display, and although the the JERRY retains the same crisp, easy to read screen, it is limited to one color only. President chose orange, which makes sense, as it is probably easiest on the eyes.

There are also a couple of very notable differences with the included accessories. Of course, both come with the same 1800mAh lithium-ion battery pack and removable antenna. The rest of the kit is quite a bit different. While the RANDY II comes with a drop-in charger, external mobile antenna adapter, microphone/radio hanger, belt clip and even a wrist strap, the JERRY has none of those. Instead, it has a combo vehicle charging/antenna adapter and fuse. This combo cable performs a dual function, to power and charge the JERRY and provide an adapter for connecting an external antenna to it, so you can turn your handheld into a mobile radio.

The RANDY II currently sells for $164.00. By eliminating the extra features and the drop-in charger, President was able to get the price of the JERRY down to only $129.00.

The following chart is a comparison between the new President JERRY FCC and the RANDY II CB radios.

  • The 2024 hurricane season is here and we can help you get ready

Hurricane IdaliaJune 1st marked the official start of the 2024 hurricane season. It extends to the end of November. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts an above normal Atlantic hurricane season this year.

According to the web site, "NOAA is forecasting a range of 17 to 25 total named storms (winds of 39 mph or higher). Of those, 8 to 13 are forecast to become hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or higher), including 4 to 7 major hurricanes (category 3, 4 or 5; with winds of 111 mph or higher). Forecasters have a 70% confidence in these ranges.".

This alert is not to be taken lightly. Unfortunately, the most of us tend to wait until a storm is approaching to prepare for it. Then it's a mad dash to stock up on the essentials at the last minute. The question is, are you ready? If not, the time to prepare is now.

More than ever, it's important to be ready, not just for a hurricane, but any other potential disaster. Emergency communications are a vital part of that readiness. And we can help.

This hurricane season, Buy Two Way Radios is ready, with weather radios and two way radios equipped with NOAA weather channels and weather alerts, some of which have advanced alert functions.

Midland has a full line of weather radios. Two models, the WR-120 and the WR400, are also equipped with Specific Area Message Encoding (S.A.M.E) digital technology. Many CB radios also feature weather channels and alerts. President incorporates weather channels and alerts as standard features in most of its line of CB radios.

Wouxun also features radios equipped with built-in NOAA weather channels and alerts. In fact, several models have advanced alert features that allow you to customize these alerts based on your needs or preferences. These models include the KG-935G Plus, KG-Q10G, KG-Q10H and KG-S74A.

Of course, radios aren't the only items needed in an emergency preparedness kit, but they are very important ones. If you have questions or need assistance in choosing the right radios, give us a call weekdays at 1-800-584-1445 and we will be happy to help.

  • Ham vs. GMRS | TWRS-190 Podcast Video

Recently we posted an article in our blog in response to a discussion in the Two Way Radio Forum comparing the amateur radio service to the GMRS. The original poster in the forum provided a short but interesting take as to why he thought ham radio was the better option. The reasoning put forth was based simply on the fact that while both were governed by rules set forth by the FCC, ham radio had more spectrum allocated to it than GMRS.

In this full video edition of the award nominated The Two Way Radio Show Podcast, Danny and Rick discuss the pros and cons of both the Amateur and GMRS radio services and which one they think is better. We’ll also take some of your comments and questions from our blog and our Two Way Radio Forum.
